SM 2010 was my first Swedish championship in my 15 years of IPSC and also the biggest ever with 226 shooters from Norway, Denmark, Finland, Swiss and of course Sweden. Rasmus Gyllenberg and his police crew had made the whole setup for SM and like Rooster Mountain it´s a huge task with many hours of designing, building and arrange RO’s , match hotel and banket. I have a lot of respect for those guys who, like Nike, just do it.

The range in Gothenburg is a medium size range which originally is designed for bullseye shooting so I think that only one stage is build for practical shooting (stage 3). This gives the stage designer some difficulties to make dynamic stages with targets on different ranges. But Rasmus and crew did a good job and they used the range to its limits;16 shooters on every squad and stage multiple scoring. Despite these challenges we followed the time schedule both days and the results and the prize table were ready about 5 PM Sunday. Nice work Rasmus plus crew and all the RO’s that was working their butt of!

“My” squad was a mix of some of the best PD shooter from Norway, Denmark, Finland, Swiss and Sweden. It was a good squad and we actually helped each other to perform our best and it was a great weekend. We started on stage 12, a very difficult circus stage where 90% had a bad or a very bad run. I did it quite well on stage 12 and ended up on a second place, but most of my squad mates had a bad run. I had some good runs at the next 3 stages, so I was in the race. Odd Stengeness, who started badly on stage 12 as the first shooter, shot better and better without making fantastic results but his strategy gave him a good result at the end.

Peter Heller, who also was on my squad, was also shooting stabile and he only had some small errors through the match. After the first day everything was open, but we knew that Rasmus had shot an almost clean pre-match and many times Swedish champion Jörgen Björk had had some troubles with his new SigSauer. Even Skaarer was on another squad so we had only talked with him after the first day. Later I realized that there was a lot of other fantastic Swedish shooters, who had shot a good match. I have never experienced such a tough Swedish competition in PD, which also could boast about being the biggest division with 114 shooters.

The second day for me was not good I tried to make a stupid solution on stage 7 where you had a rope to hold on to, but I choose to use my foot instead. I ended up using almost 50% more time compared to the others on my squad. Luckily I got a stage win on stage 9! Hageman had on the first day lost a lot of points so he tried some very different solutions. Especially on stage 10 he had a spectacular run using only one aperture instead of two. The whole range (stage 10-12) cheered when they saw Lars performing this stunt.

Until the last stage I was (almost) satisfied with my shooting. I totally crashed on stage 11 a relative simple stage with some moving no-shoot targets but on close range. I got a brain failure and got 2 no-shoots and a miss – damn! I lost 5 places and ended up with a 12 place. The race is not finished before the last shot - remember that! You probably all know the result and Rasmus took his second title this year - an outstanding performance! Even and Odd got respectively 2nd and 3rd place and I will salute to the winner and all the other good PD shooters in top 10.

Also congratulations to Ralf K. Jensen who won the standard division, also in pre-match, why comments on his performance therefore is lacking.

Johan Hansen regained the title in open. Nice to see that experience and talent can win!

I am looking forward to follow my fellow shooters at the EEC in Serbia on the Internet and hopefully some of them will return with some metal.

See you on the range…
