My “shooting carrier” started when I was a small boy and it was my father Anthon Rømer who took me out to the shooting range in the late 70´. I started shooting with a Russian Margolin Vostox cal. 22 from a table on the military shooting range in Copenhagen. My farther was a home guard firearms instructor so sometimes we had a lot of automatic weapons at home. My brother and I learned quickly to handle different weapons and we were taught the Cooper safety rules: - All guns are always loaded. Even if they are not, treat them as if they are.
- Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy.

When I got older I started shooting air-rifle in an indoor shooting range near my home, but then I reached the critical aged were girls, party and beers were much more fun. I first began to shoot again when I got into the military where I was for 2 years. I was a firearms instructor in the Royal Danish Navy and began to shoot pistol in my spare time. In the early 90´there was a military shooting range on the island Holmen, and I trained as often as I could. UIT or ISSF shooting was at that time my primary discipline, but my father took me out shooting “Terræn” (field) and that became my new discipline for some years. I bought a Sako Triace pistol in 1993 and after that more guns were bought to shoot the different disciplines.
In 1993 I heard about IPSC shooting, but it was first in 1996 that I took IPSC License with my brother. We were totally sold…this sport was the ultimate shooting discipline and after parsing the test I only wanted to shoot IPSC. Since my first competition in Sweden spring 1996 things began to roll quickly and I started shooting with a SIG P-210 M/49 military pistol with a self made leather holster. Very quickly I realised that I had to change pistol and equipment, and I bought an old Springfield single stack Open gun from one of my friends. It was a big mistake but my friend and gunsmith Søren Andersen rebuild it, and despite of his time and effort it never worked for me and after a match in Gothenburg 1997 I shifted to shoot Glock. I immediately got success with Glock and it was first in fall 2006 I shifted to Sphinx 3000 Production.
Through the years I have been shooting many different disciplines and I have many victories and top results in the luggage. Here are some of the disciplines and countries I have been shooting in: | Disciplines | Countries | | 10m Air rifle | Germany | | 25m Center Fire Pistol | Sweden | | 25m Standard Pistol | Norway | | 25m Combi Pistol | France | | 12,5m Duty Pistol | Lithuania | | 25m Military Pistol | Czech Republic | | Field Pistol | Poland | | PPC 1500 | Hungary | | IPSC (pistol and rifle) | |
Shooting has enriched my life on many levels and especially IPSC has given me many friendships across borders and social status. But when you are shooting IPSC on a high level it has a lot of sacrifices in your private life and that’s something you have to be prepared to face… My life has the last 10 years been driven by the IPSC.org calendar…but it’s a lot of fun so just go shoot!
